The trumpet is a brasswind instrument. It has the highest register of all the brass instruments, along with being the smallest. Commonly pitched in Bb, as well as Eb, it is one octave higher than the baritone and is written in the treble clef. Trumpets are among the oldest musical instruments, dating back to circa 1500 BC or earlier.
